As the hype goes on about trans fat free food more and more companies are coming forward to ban the trans fat in their products. Marriott, which has 2300 hotels in US and Canada, announced that it would go trans fat free. This was after Omni and Loews hotels announced their conversion. McDonalds, Burger King have already announced the no trans fact in their food. It has started as a new Marketing campaign as companies are trying to market their products with these announcements. It seems that once they announce no use of trans fact, they are getting publicity from all media and hence trying to cash in the new phenomenon.
The greatest impact it could have is on conferences and banquets where the hotels capitalize on at least 20% of their revenues. The people at the banquets are forced to have that food. The hotels without trans-fat in their food are definitely going to benefit.
But what exactly is the hype about trans fat. It all started in 2003 with the lawsuits against Kraft and McDonalds. In December 2006 New York announced ban of all food products with trans fact. This announcement had the impact on the whole world. People who had never heard about the trans fact started to research and find alternatives for the trans fat. While companies in New York started to struggle to find the alternatives and deliver trans fat free products, the whole world is now realizing the dangers of trans fat.
The world has awakened to the use of partially hydrogenated oils. But when the whole world will awaken to this phenomenon campaign? Countries like India, which consume a lot of fried products haven't awakened from the risks of it. There is probably a person who dies of heart attack every minute in India, thus it becomes very imperative that they follow this practice and come to more healthy ways to consume food.
