tle and even as high as £90 are bandied about, but the truth is that these wines are still at the experimental stage, gradually establishing a market and a method of distribution to a very select audience.

☆☆☆☆☆ What is more interesting is the way the Chinese wine industry has moved on in the last 12 months.☆ I was in China to judge the 2005 Beijing Wines and Spirits Competition, organised by China Drinks Magazine, involving a collection of the best wines on the Chinese market from both local and imported sources. Quality was definitely up from last year, there was more variety of tastes and styles and a lot fewer faults. It showed that the Chinese market is starting to appreciate wine in a way it did not a few years ago. In a country where tea is served as a free option at all meals, wine is an expensive choice but already there is an expansion of fine dining where wine is definitely on the menu.☆

☆☆☆☆☆ This new interest will show itself soon at the new Sun Valley Vineyard winery being built by Liaoning Asia Red on the outskirts of Shenyang which will be devoted to the production of Ice Wine. Built to resemble a cross between the Pentagon and Buckingham Palace, it will become a combined winery, leisure centre and hotel bringing wine to the heart of a vast new audience. This impressive building project by dynamic entrepreneur Tinghui Wu shows the confidence and future in wine from China.
